The crushing in the extraction of metals plays a very important role in the treatment and processing of the raw material, the crushing represents one fundamental process from which the subsequent treatment processes are carried out.

In this article we see some basic concepts about secondary crushing and the equipment used in this process.

In secondary crushing, the size of the ore is reduced to a value between 3 “and 2”, leaving it in a condition to be able to move to the preliminary concentration. The crushers used in this part are usually from rotating or conical type.

These crushers, unlike the primaries, work at relatively high speeds (approximately 500 r.p.m.) and their exit opening of the crushed products is smaller.

Rotary crusher:

The gyratory crushers are similar to those used for primary crushing, but smaller, in order to produce an adequate size of product and consist of a conical crushing mass that rotates inside a housing, open on the upper and lower sides.

The ore that is going to be crushed is loaded by its upper part, and the mechanism by which the crushing is performed is based on the main shaft that rests in an eccentric bushing, as the latter moves, the main shaft rotates inside the casing, breaking the ore against the casing or mantle and letting it out to the bottom when the main shaft moves to the opposite side.

Conical crushers:

The conical crusher is a modified rotary crusher. The main difference is that the axis and cone are not suspended from the spider cap, but are supported by a universal rest located below. In addition, since a large feed opening is no longer necessary, the outer cone is no longer open at the top.
