One of the resources that have the greatest impact on mining operations is the water supply, nowadays, its scarce availability is due to several factors, such as the growing demand for water for human consumption, and also for the industrial sector in general, as well as the decrease of ore grades in the new deposits, increases the use of water in the processes to obtain the same results.
The mining companies must therefore maintain good water management, where they recycle, reuse and maintain a constant monitoring of the process water, to prevent possible spills that may affect the environment and the surrounding communities.
The good management of this resource also represents for the mining operations the sustainability of its operations, both in being able to maintain an efficient production, as well as in the part of the social impact and the strict compliance of the governmental regulations.
Some of the actions that have been taken to make the use of this natural resource more efficient are applied directly in the process, such as, for example, the use of press filters to recover water from the tailings before depositing them in the dams, this method can reach recover between 20 and 60 percent of the water contained in the sludge with which the filter is fed.
Having a good control over the wells of fresh water, allows the regeneration of aquifers and the constant monitoring of water quality parameters, whose main objective is to comply with the standards for the protection of the environment and people.
